Summary

The remainder of the plot follows those affected by the event as they deal through their feelings in various ways and resume their usual lives in the aftermath of the shock. The film is highly emotional, tapping into societal and personal worries that do not come up in ordinary talks. The shooting incident at the film’s opening is so powerful and disturbing that it establishes enough momentum for the rest of the film to unfold slowly with dispersed moments of intensity and lovely closeness. The protagonists’ talks change — at times astonishingly fast — between lighthearted banter and tear-jerking confessions. As they ride the rollercoaster of the coping process, the major characters’ relationships come across as wonderfully authentic. As Vada isolates herself after the shooting, she becomes particularly frustrated with her sister, despite Amelia’s efforts to bridge the gap. This leads Amelia to a devastating conclusion presented in one of the film’s most affecting moments.
Acting
Jenna Ortega’s performance as Vada blows the audience away with her portrayal of a smart teen who is still a teen at heart, going through an unimaginably tragic event on top of the main problems in The Fallout.As she tries to deal with the killing, her strange, impulsive, and sometimes even funny outbursts show a realistic and compassionate picture of teen grief.
Mia is played by Maddie Ziegler, who does an amazing job of showing how weak she can be emotionally. The movie has a fragile sense of balance because of how well she gets along with Jenna Ortega on screen. The young actors’ very different takes on their characters paint a striking picture of grief and how different people deal with it.
In this sad drama, other players like Niles Fitch as Quinton Hasland, Lumi Pollack as Amelia Cavell, and Shailene Woodley as the therapist, who we only see for a short time, all leave a clear mark.
