Polymers are long chain molecules that are made up of many smaller chemical chains. In order to make sure that the shampoo is doing its job, you will need a tester.
A melt flow index tester is used to measure the viscosity and melt flow properties of the shampoo. This is done by measuring the rate of the Melt Flow Index Tester material flow from a syringe into a specially designed die. There are several ways to measure the melt flow index, but all of them are standardized to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D1238 standard.
A melt flow index (MFI) of at least 30 is necessary in a lot of cases. MFI less than 30 indicates a high molecular weight of the material. The higher the number of MFI the lower the molecular weight of the polymer. This means that you are dealing with lower molecular weight polymers.
Lower molecular weight polymers can result in low solubility, which leads to poor cleaning performance. Higher molecular weight polymers give higher MFI readings. You will see that you have low solubility when you have a high MFI.
