Rajpur Caves / Karthik Caves

Rajpuri Caves in Satara district, just a few kilometers outside Panchgani is believed to have been the abode for the Pandavas during their exile and a worship place for Lord Kartikeys. Hence, these caves have both historical and religious significance among Indians.

The caves are surrounded by many holy Kunds or ponds, which is believed to get waters from holy river Ganga. According to the locals, the water of these ponds have medicinal properties and taking a dip in it can cure skin dIseases.

Wai

On the bank of river Krishna, lies a small city called Wai. This picturesque town is known for the seven ghats and few temples it has around. The hilly terrain, thick woods, and hundreds of temples,  make it one of the must-visit places in Panchgani. In ancient Hindu texts, Wai was known as Virat Nagari, where the Pandavas lived with its king for a long period of time.

Furthermore, it was in Wai, where two prominent Indian queens Rani Lakshmi bai and Rani Gopika bai were born here. The Dholya Ganapati temple, built by Raja Bhoja in 1762, was made of finished stone and has a spacious inner sanctum and a huge hall.

Devrai Art Village

This spot shouldn’t be left unexplored. This art village is a non-profit organization and is an honest initiative to connect people with nature and creativity. The artifacts here are the finest examples of the brilliant Adivasi craftsmanship of local artists.

These artists are from the nearby Gadchiroli region and produce mass products to promote their culture and tradition. Kamalgad Fort

Whether you are a history buff or not, Kamalgad Fort in Panchgani is a must-visit site. The way to the fort is surrounded by steepy rocks. You will not find any protective walls around the fort as the sharp rocks surrounding it are enough to protect it.

Although nobody knows who built the fort, during the Maratha rule, Kamalgadh and its nearby Pandavgadh were administered by a Mokasaddar from Bijapur. When it went into the hands of the British, they used the fort to execute the prisoners. 

Pratapgarh Fort

Just an hour drive from Panchgani and you will reach the base of Pratapgarh Fort. Those interested about a trek can visit this ancient fort with historical significance. The trek is not challenging and offers magnificent views of the jungles and cloudy mountains.

The battle took place in 1659 between Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and general Afzhal Khan of Bijapur Sultanate. In the battle, Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzhal Khan, and Masjid Wazir Khan marking the victory of the Maratha kingdom over the Bijapur Sultanate. Today, a large number of tourists flock to the fort for its beautiful trekking routes.
